Records suggest James 'Jimmy' B Spencer volunteered from The Northants Regiment. Was a member of C Coy HQ Pln, 8 PARA in Normandy 1944. Wounded 25/8/44. Then served on the Rhine Crossing 1945 with C Coy 7 Pln. He suffered a gunshot wound to the knee.
He was successfully jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 117. This course ran between 21 May and 8 June 1944. It consisted of 8 jumps from balloons, Whitley and Dakota aircrafts. His jump instructor noted this about Jimmy's performance:
"Very nervous on A/C, but jumped well"
After this training he was at first posted to No.1 Airborne Forces Holding Unit (AFHU).
Jimmy now lives with his wife in a care home in Northamptonshire.
