No 6400271. Sgt. Sparkes has studied the list of missing personnel sent to him on the 6th November 1945. I am enclosing the information he supplied about the following men:-

2036333. L/Sgt. V.G. Lewis.

4534684. Pte. J. Morris.

14219436. Pte. C.J. Talbot.

INFORMATION RE No 2036333. L/Sgt. V.G. Lewis.

Sgt. Lewis, serving in the same Platoon as myself was with me from the time of descent until we encountered our first ‘major’ opposition, which was in the area of “L” Glider Zone, Wolfhezen on the 19th Sept. On having to retire from these positions and on reaching Wolfhezen Station, Sgt. Lewis was missing, and from that time until the end of the operation he was not with us. I never saw or heard of Sgt. Lewis having become a casualty, although unforeseen he may have been hit during our retirement, and being that it was impossible to go back looking for missing personnel this, I think, may have been the case.

INFORMATION RE No 4534684. Pte. J. Morris.

Pte Morris who was a member of my Sect, was with me from the time of descent until approx. 15.00 hrs on the 20th Sept. It was in the area of ‘Hartenstein’, where we were engaged with the enemy heavily wooded country, that an order was given to advance and clear all opposition. Pte Morris was with me at this particular stage and participated in the advance. After completion I checked up and found the A.M. man was missing. After enquiring I was given to understand that he ??? on some particular mission with a Pte Gale who was in our Coy H.Q. I did not see him again and have no idea what became of him. Pte Gale, who I think is now back in this country, may be able to give some detailed information.

INFORMATION RE No 14219436. Pte. G.J. Talbot.

Pte. Talbot was with the rest of the Bn in two houses in ‘Oosterbeek’ on the 21st Sept, he was quite alright and in no way wounded. I can give no information after this as I left them to go with the wounded.

This is all the information I can give ref the attached list, and although not very accurate, sincerely hope that it may be of some help.
