Cyd Enlisted in the Scots Guards on 25 April 1960 and served with the Army until 25 May 1992. 

He served in various theatres The Far East, East Africa, Middle East including BAOR and Northern Ireland including Tours with 2nd Battalion Scots Guards from 1965 to 1968 with 1st(Guards)Independent Company The Parachute Regiment, as CSM Left Flank 2SG& Drill Sergeant 1st Battalion Scots Guards Chelsea Barracks & RAF Aldergrove NI // Drill Sergeant The Guards Depot Pirbright // Sergeant Major The Infantry Junior Leaders Battalion Shorncliffe.

He was Commissioned with the rank of captain on 23 June 1986 and served in 2nd Battalion Scots Guards, and Second in Command of The NCO's Tactical Wing School of Infantry Brecon where he retired on 25 May 1992 

Cyd died in The Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil on Saturday 17 June 2023 in the early hours of the morning with his wife Sue by his side. He died as the A&E team we’re trying to resuscitate him, sadly he lost his final battle. His funeral was held at Hereford Crematorium 12 July 2023
