Alfred Benjamin Skelton enlisted into The King's Shropshire Light Infantry (KSLI) before being posted to The Herefordshire Regiment.
Pte Skelton volunteered for airborne forces in late 1943 and undertook parachute Course 98 which ran at RAF Ringway from 10 to 21 January 1944. The course report states ‘Pte Skelton: Worked hard throughout course, a good performer.’
He was then posted to the 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion and jumped into Normandy on 6 June 1944 (D Day). Sgt Skelton returned to KSLI in November 1945 after seeing active service with 13th Para Bn in 1944-5 in the Ardennes Battle of the Bulge, the Rhine Crossing and advanced across Germany to the Baltic.
