2nd Lt Lincoln Delmar Bundy was a member of the US Army Air Force, 486th Fighter Squadron. He was shot down in France and managed to contact the French resistance who passed him on to the 1st Special Air Service Regiment, operating some 240 miles behind the enemy front line.
He was born on 12 February 1918 in Saint George, Washington County, Utah, USA.
He was murdered by a Nazi firing squad on 7 July 1944, aged 26 and is now buried in Rom Communal Cemetery Southern France.
