Kenneth 'Ken' Turner enlisted in with the Parachute Regiment with 3 PARA, Company Drums, in 1957 and served until 1960. He played the bugle. Ken was based at Corona Barracks, Aldershot.
Ken served in Cyprus 1958, then Jordan, then back to Cyprus all in 1958 and then on to Norway.
He received medals for Cyprus, Jordan (Arabian Service) & Jordan(for service in the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan)
Ken was a great boxer and became the 3 Para Heavy Weight boxing Champion in 1959
After he left The Paras in 1960 he then went to work in Creswell Colliery, studied to be a electrician, then became a test engineer, testing gas & oil Pipelines for his own company until he retires at 70yrs old. Ken also did 22 years serve with The Reserves (Colours).
Ken had a hectic social life, and was the Chairman for the Chesterfield Parachute Regimental Association for over 10 years,he loved nothing more than meeting up with the 'old boys' over a few beers.
Ken married Rita in 1961 they had two Daughters Lorraine and Lisa, sadly Lorraine died 2 weeks after her father's death.
Kens youngest daughter Lisa Turner is also the Secretary for the Chesterfield Parachute Regimental Association.
