Corporal John R B Williams

John Reginald Bernard Williams was the son of Thomas and Kate Williams, of Morden, Surrey. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Williams successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 99 from 19 January to 3 February 1944. His course report stated “Hard worker, good morale, average performance, good NCO”. He was posted to B Squadron, 1st Special Air Service Regiment, Army Air Corps, and took part in Operation Bulbasket.

Cpl Williams was murdered by a French doctor, by means of a lethal injection on 8 July 1944, aged 23, along with two of his comrades, Trooper Joseph Ogg, and Trooper Henry J Pascoe. Their bodies were never recovered and they are commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
