Thomas Alfred Gilmore was born and lived in Birmingham and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Gilmore successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in Operation Overlord (D day landings).
Pte Gilmore was killed in action on 5 July 1944, aged 20, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
