Corporal David A Pontin

07 Jun 1919 - 19 Jun 1944

David Albert Pontin was the son of Francis Henry and Catherine Ann (Jones) Pontin; husband of Violet Ellen (Waine) Pontin, of Addlestone, Weybridge, Surrey. Married December 1942. He enlisted in the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Pontin successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and also completed glider training. He was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy Landings).

Cpl Pontin was killed in action on 19 June 1944, aged 25, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
