Alexander Joseph McInnis was the son of Daniel and Jane McInnis, of Nova Scotia, Canada. He enlisted in the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps on 21 July 1942. He was 5’ 3 “, 121 pounds, Brown Hair, Blue Eyes, with 20/20 vision.
Private McInnis successfully completed parachute training at Fort Benning on 27 November 1942 and joined 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. Sailed to England on 5 June 1943 and jumped with the Battalion into France on 6 June 1944 as part of Operation Overlord (Normandy Landings).
Pte McInnis was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 28, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
