Alf joined the General Service Corps, Royal Artillery on the 19 of December 1945, posted to 96 Airborne Light Battery, 33 Airborne Light Regt RA.
Served in Cyprus into Eygpt 1951 and was awarded the GSM with clasp "Palestine" Also posted to BAOR.
