Pte Derek Charlesworth was born in 1937 in Yorkshire and was a member of B Company, 3 PARA, which made the initial parachute drop into Egypt at Gamil Airport during the Suez crisis on 6 November 1956.
He had been injured earlier that year by a grenade attack in March 1956 due to terrorist activity in Cyprus but recovered in time for the Suez Operation.
Derek Charlesworth was killed in a car accident in Ireland in June 1972 and was married with 3 children.
