Sapper Frederick G Shorey

Sapper Frederick George Shorey, son of John and Dorothy Shorey, of North Shields, Northumberland, served with 249 Field Company (Airborne) Royal Engineers. He took part in the 6th Airborne response to the German counter-offensive in the Ardennes, during Winter 1944-5.

Sapper Shorey died on Boxing Day 1944, aged 22 years old. He is now buried at Charleroi Communal Cemetery, Charleroi, Belgium.

I have added a picture of my Uncle Fred (Sapper Frederick G Shorey) who was on the second Glider involved in the taking of he now known Pegasus Bridge. He Later went on to be involved in the counter-offensive of the Ardennes 24/12/1944/ He was unfortunately killed on 26/12/1944 and buried in Charleroi where we visited his Grave. We are trying to piece together what happened, where and how etc. We would appreciate any help/assistance and would love to hear from anyone who has survived these long years and who served with him, Thank you.

I have now found Frederick was on the first glider following letters published in the Newspapers in July 1944. We have found addidional letters from the 8th June 1944 and a five page letter from Sapper Joch Lockhart who was a good friend. We are trying to locate his family. We will be in France at Pegasus 5th-9th June 2023
