Rifleman Eric R Swingler

30 Sep 1911 - 02 Apr 1945

Eric Ronald Swingler was the son of Frank Brewin and Eliza Annie Swingler; husband of Sylvia Ivy (Pearson) Swingler, of Birmingham. He was a Gentlemans Hairdresser. They married in Birmingham in October 1930. Eric enlisted in The Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Rifleman Swingler successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Rfn Swingler was killed in action on 2 April 1945, age 33, and was given a field burial at Wissingen, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 17 May 1947.
