Lance Sergeant Robert A Strachan

Robert Alexander Strachan was the son of Robert Alexander and Mary Ann (Henderson) Strachan, of Edinburgh, he enlisted in the Royal Corps of Signals and volunteered for airborne forces.

His younger brother, Sgt Alexander Taylor Strachan, No. 1341911 RAFVR was killed in action on 11 January 1943, age 21, and is commemorated at Edinburgh (Seafield) Crematorium.

Lance Sergeant Strachan successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 6th Airborne Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

L/Sgt Strachan was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 29, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 23 April 1947.
