Kenneth John Padfield was the son of George David and Florence Elizabeth (Ford) Padfield, of Shepton Mallet, Somerset, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Padfield successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Pte Padfield was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 21, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 24 April 1947.
