Sapper William J Jones

William John Jones was the son of Mrs B. G. Howells, of Ebbw Vale Monmouthshire, he enlisted in The South Wales Borderers, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sapper Jones successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 286 (Airborne) Field Park Company, Royal Engineers, and took part in operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Spr Jones was killed in action on 24 March 1945, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 19 November 1946.
