Private Leonard A J Harris A.C.I.I.

Leonard Alfred John Harris was the son of Ivor William G and Caroline F Harris, of Bristol; husband of Stella Marjorie Harris, of Eastville, Bristol. He was an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Insurance. He enlisted in the Somerset Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Harris successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Harris was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 32, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 8 April 1947.
