Alexander Gordon Sayers from Broxburn, West Lothian in Scotland enlisted in the Territorial Army Unit of the The Black Watch and allocated army number 2486884 initially and then re-allocated 1874217 due to previous service. On completion of basic training on the 14/01/1940 was posted to the 1st Holding Battalion, part of the 51st Highland Division at Catterick.
On the 15/03/1940 was posted to 50th Holding battalion The Black Watch and was promoted to L/CPL on the 16/04/1940.
Posted to 10th Battalion The Black Watch on the 09/10/1940. Promoted to Corporal 28/01/1941
Arrived Gibraltar 05/09/1942 and joined the 4th battalion The Black Watch. The whole battalion returned to the UK on the 02/05/1943.
Transferred to the Army Air Corp on the 15/10/1943 in the hope to see more action and was sent to Depot & School Airborne Forces.
Posted to 9th Battalion, Parachute Regiment on the 15/12/1943 and believed to have been allocated to C Company.
Seen action in Operation Overlord (Normandy), Ardennes, Operation Varsity (Rhine Germany) and across Germany.
At the end of the war he extended his service and went to Palestine where he told us he was Lt Col N Crookenden driver.
He was discharged from the Army on the 01/02/1946.
