John Glazier served with the 2nd Battalion, The Sussex Regiment, which was turned over to airborne forces and redesignated as 10th Parachute Battalion in early 1943.
Later that year John Glazier deployed with the 10th Para Bn for the Italy campaign and returned to the United Kingdom in December 1943 in preparation for the main European landings (Operation Overlord).
In the event the battalion was not deployed in Normandy and, after a series of cancelled operations, the battalion was sent in as part of 1st Airborne Division's assault force tasked with capturing the Rhine crossings at Arnhem during Operation Market Garden.
John Glazier made an opposed combat jump on the second lift (Monday 18 September 1944) onto Ginkelse Heide and was killed the following day by German medium machine gun fire in the Johannahoeve area.
Sgt John Glazier died on 19 September 1944, aged 34 years, and has no known grave. He is now commemorated on the memorial at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, Netherlands.
