Private Sidney A Carpenter

Sidney Albert Carpenter was the son of George Ernest and Elizabeth Anne Carpenter; husband of Trixie Aimee Carpenter, of Paignton, Devon, he enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Carpenter successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Carpenter was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 27, and was given a field burial at Dingden and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 16 January 1947.
