James Joseph Brunton was born in Eire and lived in Belfast, he enlisted in the Royal Sussex Regiment 28 April 1941 and then volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Brunton successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles 26 February 1942. He and took part in operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Cpl Brunton was killed in action on 24 March 1945, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 23 April 1947.
