John Frederick Briggs was the son of Frederick William and Mary Russell Briggs, of Finsbury Park, Middlesex, he enlisted in the Royal Corps of Signals and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Briggs successfully completed parachute training at RAF Chakrabati, India and was posted to K Section, 6th Airborne Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals and took part in operations in India, North Africa (Operation Torch), Italy, Normandy (Operation Overlord), Ardennes, and Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Cpl Briggs was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 31, and was given a field burial near Hamminkeln and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 26 March 1947.
