Abraham George Algar was the son of Arthur George and Emily (Langley) Algar, of Middlesex; husband of Eunice I. J. (Backhouse) Algar. He enlisted in The Royal Fusiliers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Algar successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and took part in operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Pte Algar was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 30, and was given a field burial in Hamminkeln and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 16 April 1947.
