Roy Thomas Tarrant was the son of Capt. Charles Leslie Tarrant, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, and of Dorothy Ada Tarrant, of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, he enlisted in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Tarrant successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 41 from 3 to 17 December 1942. His course report stated “Good.” He was posted to Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers attached to 9th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Sgt Tarrant was killed in action on 17 June 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial at Le Mesnil, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 26 June 1945.
