William Kenneth Sherman was the son of William Edgar and Alice Elizabeth Sherman; husband of Lily Elizabeth Annie Sherman, of Ewshot, Hampshire. He enlisted in the Essex Regiment, transferred to the Army Catering Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Sherman successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway and was attached to 9th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Sherman died of wounds on 15 August 1944, aged 32, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
