George Frederick Martin was the son of Bertram Raymond and Margaret Martin, he enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Driver Martin successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 93, from 29 November to 13 December 1943. His course report stated “Good in stick jumping, keen and confident”. He was posted to 716 (Airborne) Light Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Dvr Martin was killed in action on 6 July 1944, aged 22, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
