Malcolm Sutherland Leeco was the son of Hiram Francis and Minnie Leeco; husband of Mamie Helen Leeco, of St Mary’s Road, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He enlisted in 8th Medium Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery on 8 September 1939.
He was 5’ 11”, 170 lbs, Medium complexion, Green eyes, Fair hair and with 20/20 vision. He volunteered for Airborne forces and transferred to 1st Canadian Parachute battalion and qualified as a parachutist on 29 April 1944, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Sergeant Leeco and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion jumped into Normandy on the night of 5/6 June 1944. He died of wounds on 7 July 1944, aged 26, and was given a field burial at Colleville-sur-Orne and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 16 September 1945.
