Private Clarence D Lapierre

Clarence David Lapierre was born in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, to Marcel Clarence and Lillian Mabel Lapierre, of Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. He enlisted in 2nd District Depot on 21 January 1943 and transferred to 48th Highlanders on 20 May 1943. He was 5’ 8”, 140 lbs, Dark complexion, Brown eyes, Black hair and with 20/20 vision.

He volunteered for Airborne forces and transferred to 1st Canadian Parachute battalion on 16 January 1944 and attended a parachute training course at RAF Ringway on 8 March 1944. Clarence arrived in the UK on 19 June 1943 and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Private Lapierre and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion jumped into Normandy on the night of 5/6 June 1944. He died of wounds on 7 June 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial at Le Mesnil de Breville and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 26 June 1945.
