John Basil Edward Kittow was the son of Digory Edward and Helen Moncrieff Kittow, of Linkinghorne, Cornwall, he enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lieutenant Kittow successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Lt Kittow was killed in action on 12 June 1944, aged 23, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
