Private Leslie J Hooper

Leslie James Hooper was the son of Henry James and Louisa Violet Hooper, of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, he enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Hooper successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Hooper was killed in action on 12 June 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial at Amfreville. He was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 13 June 1945.
