George joined the Royal Corps of Signals TA in 1937 with the North Midland Corps Signals and was embodied at the outbreak of WW2.
He was part of the BEF and evacuated from Dunkirk with the rest of his Unit. As a Signalman he passed his trade test to be Operator Wireless and line.
After a period with the 42 Armoured Division he joined the 6th Airborne in August 1943. He took part in the Normandy Landings and was injured after being hit with shrapnel in his trench on the 13/06/44 and evacuated back to the UK on 15/06/44.
He continued with the 6th Airborne until posted to the 1st Airborne in June 1945 with whom he took part in Operation Doomsday and the liberation of Norway. He returned from Norway with his unit 28/08/1945 and after spending December 1945 to February 1945 in Germany with 105 AA Brigade he returned to the UK and was released from the Army February 1946.
