Lance Sergeant Allen Charles

Allen Charles was the husband of Mavis Charles, of Weston-Super-Mare. He enlisted in the Royal Ulster Rifles and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Sergeant Charles successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

L/Sgt Charles was killed in action on 8 June 1944, aged 23, and was given a field burial in Longueval, France. He was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery on 8 June 1945.
