William Allan was the son of Robert and Jessie Allan, of Ayr. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Allan successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway, on course number 74 from 23 July to 3 August 1943. His course report stated “Jumped very well after his recovery from concussion” and was posted to 224 Parachute Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps. He took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy Landings).
Pte Allan was killed in action on 10 July 1944, aged 20, and was buried at Ranville War Cemetery.
