James Adamson was the son of James and Elizabeth Adamson, of Edinburgh. He enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Adamson successfully completed Air Despatcher training and was posted to 800 Air Despatch Company, Royal Army Service Corps, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
L/Cpl Adamson was killed in action on 21 September, aged 29, when RAF 437 Squadron Dakota KG-376, base Blakehill Farm, was shot down by German fighters and crashed southwest of Keldonk. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing. (Roll of Honour, 5th Revised Edition, 2011).
