Private William Sheach

William Sheach was the son of Thomas and Joan Sheach, of Newton of Wormiston, Fife. He enlisted in the Royal Armoured Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Sheach successfully completed his glider training, and was posted to A Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Sheach was in Stalag IVD, and is reported to have been killed on 31 March 1945, aged 26, during an allied air raid. He was given a field burial in the Halle POW Cemetery and was re-interred to Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery on 22 May 1947.
