Private Edward D Meredith

Edward Davies Meredith was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Meredith, of Aberdare, Glamorgan. Youngest of 3 brothers from Aberdare. Brothers Jack and William and Sid. He enlisted in the General Service Corps, transferred to the Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Meredith successfully completed his glider training, and was posted to C Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Meredith drowned in the river Rhine on 24 September 1944, aged 22. His body was recovered from the river Lek on 14 November 1944 and buried in the Schalkwijk Protestant Churchyard.
