Harold Ward enlisted in the West Yorkshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Ward successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway, on course number 111, and was posted to 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Ward was listed as missing on 25 September 1944, and later confirmed as being a POW in Germany. He returned to the UK on 4 April 1945, and subsequently died of Tuberculosis at Killingbeck Sanatorium, aged 24. H e was laid to rest in Leeds (Harehills) Cemetery.
