Private Thomas O Farrage

Thomas Oysten Farrage was the son of Robert and Isabelle Farrage, of High Spen, County Durham. He enlisted in The Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Farrage successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 94/95, on 6 to 20 December 1943. His course report stated ‘Best performer in section, very dependable man’. He was posted to D Company, 16 Platoon, 10th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Farrage was reported as being killed in action by machine gun fire on 23 September 1944, aged 26. He was given a field burial by his comrades, but the grave has not been found and he is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
