Private Arthur J Wrigley

Arthur James Wrigley was the son of Arthur and Florence Wrigley and the husband of Amy Beatrice Wrigley. He enlisted in the 5th Bn Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment TA, in 1927 and volunteered for airborne forces on the outbreak of war in 1939.

Private Wrigley Successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 21/22nd in August 1942. He was posted to 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operations in North Africa and Op Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Wrigley was seriously wounded by gun shots in the Arnhem bridge area, where he was taken prisoner. He was posted missing and confirmed as Prisoner of War (In German hands) on 25th September 1944. He was repatriated, being totally paralysed, to the UK and taken to White Lodge Hospital, Newmarket, Suffolk, on 23rd April 1945, and died of his wounds on 25th April 1947, aged 36. He is buried in Cardington (St Mary) Church Cemetery, Bedfordshire.
