George Fitzsimmons was born and lived in Liverpool. He enlisted in the Royal Armoured Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Fitzsimmons successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 109 from 27 March to 7 April 1944, and was posted to HQ Company, 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Fitzsimmons died in Stalag XIIA, aged 27, and was buried in grave 360 in the Neuburgxdorf Cemetery. The cause of his death was not registered. He was re-interred to Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery on 5 June 1947.
