Staff Sergeant John S Fairweather

John Strang Fairweather was the son of John and Anna Fairweather, of Lower Largo, Fife. He enlisted in the Royal Scots and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Staff Sergeant Fairweather originally joined 3 Para and completed parachute training at RAF Ringway. He then volunteered for the Glider Pilot Regiment and successfully completed glider pilot training and was posted to G Squadron, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Fairweather died, age 25, on 4 April 1945 from illness, in the POW Hospital Bad Soden, and was first buried at the POW Cemetery (Roll of Honour, 5th revised edition, 2011), 15 kilometres west of Frankfurt. He was re-interred to Durnbach War Cemetery on 26 September 1947. Plot Ref:3.D.6.
