Edwin Bernard Ernest Tomlinson was the son of Ernest and Winifred Tomlinson, of Rainham, Essex. He enlisted in the Royal Corps of Signals and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Sergeant Tomlinson successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and also Glider Pilot training and was posted to B Squadron, 3 Flight, Chalk Number 861, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sgt Tomlinson was killed in action on 25 September 1944, aged 26, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
