Private Stanley Rock, known to friends as 'Rocky', was born in April 1922.
He joined Airborne Forces in early 1944, completing Parachute Course 103 at RAF Ringway in late February 1944. He joined 22 (Independent) Parachute Company, who had been assigned as the Pathfinders for 6th Airborne Division.
Private Rock is believed to have served with the Coy for the D-Day landings on 5-6 June 1944 and the following Normandy campaign. Following a short period of recuperation, 6th Airborne Division redeployed in response to a German counter-offensive in the Ardennes region of Holland during Winter 1944-5.
Private Rock is pictured with the Coy before they took part in the Rhine Crossing, during Op Varsity on 24 March 1945 and the Advance to the Baltic in the latter stages of the war.
