William Victor Hazelwood was the son of William and Edith Hazelwood and the husband of Cecilia Hazelwood, of Edmonton, Middlesex. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Corporal Hazelwood successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 58, from 29 March to 11 April 1943. His course report stated ‘Steady, reliable, good performer.’ He was posted to A Troop, 1st Parachute Squadron, Corps of Royal Engineers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Cpl Hazelwood was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 25, in the Van Limburg Stirum school near the Arnhem Rhine Bridge. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek memorial to the missing.
