Gunner Frederick V Brown

Frederick Vivian Brown was the son of Joseph and Ruth Brown, of Lambeth, London. He enlisted in The Royal West Kent Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Gunner Brown successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1 Airlanding Light Regiment, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Gnr Brown was killed in action on 17 September 1944, aged 22. He died together with Robert Hempton, Eric Stubbs, Henry Tustin and glider pilots, Laurence Cook and Roy Rowland, when their glider crashed in the Elisabeth Polder behind the barn on Mr Reijnders farm, Oude Heijningsedijk, Fijnaart. They were all initially buried in the Community Cemetery at Dinteloord and re-interred to Bergen-Op-Zoom War Cemetery on 27 May 1946.
