Lance Corporal Francis W R Simpson

Francis William Richard Simpson was the son of King and Ethel Simpson, of Westgate, Kent. He enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps, and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Simpson successfully completed air despatcher training and was posted to, 253 (Airborne) Divisional Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

L/Cpl Simpson died of wounds on 23 September 1944, aged 34, when  Dakota KG-370 of 48 Squadron was hit by light Flak and crashed during a re-supply mission in the Rosandepolder at Oosterbeek, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
