Robert Frank Pragnell, son of Frank and Lucy Pragnell, of Swanage, Dorset, enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps, and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Driver Pragnell successfully completed air despatcher training and was posted to 63 (Airborne) Divisional Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Driver Pragnell was on board Stirling LK-556 when the aircraft crashed alongside Valburgseweg between Elst and Valburg at about 14.30 h. (Roll of Honour, 5th revised edition, 2011).
Dvr Pragnell was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 39, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
