Arthur John Hobbs was the son of Thomas and Ann Hobbs. He was granted a commission and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Lieutenant Hobbs successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in the battle of the bulge (Ardennes).
Lt Hobbs was killed in action 5 February 1945, aged 21, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
