Reginald Henry Hibbitt was the son of William and Elizabeth Hibbitt, of Woodhouse Eaves, Leicestershire. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Driver Hibbitt successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 111 from 10 to 17 April 1944, and was posted to 1 Para Brigade, 1st Airborne Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Dvr Hibbitt was killed in action between 25 and 26 September 1944, aged 20. He is known to have drowned in the river Rhine during the withdrawal and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
